Organic Coconut Sugar

How is your organic coconut sugar harvested?

Madhava Organic Coconut Sugar is grown and harvested sustainably in Indonesia. It is an organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, unrefined sweetener that is derived from the nectar of coconut palm tree blossoms. The nectar is boiled to evaporate the water and the remaining concentrated nectar is crystallized into sugar.

Does organic coconut sugar taste like coconuts?

Surprisingly, it doesn’t taste a bit like the fruit of a coconut. It comes from the coconut blossoms (not the coconut fruit) and has its own subtle taste making it a perfect 1 to 1 replacement for refined sugar. Enjoy it in all your favorite things from baking to smoothies, coffee, tea and more!

Is there a difference between organic coconut palm sugar and organic coconut sugar?

No, coconut palm sugar and coconut sugar both come from the blossom of the coconut palm tree.

What are the health benefits of organic coconut sugar?

Organic coconut sugar contains naturally occurring nutrients such as magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron, B vitamins and amino acids. What more could you want from a sweetener?

Organic Honey

My honey crystalized, what should I do?

Honey will crystallize over time. This is a natural process for honey and means the honey you purchased is raw and of the finest quality. If your honey has crystalized, we recommend taking the lid off the glass jar and placing the jar in a pot of hot (not boiling) water. As the honey slowly heats, it will return to its liquid state in a few minutes.

Are your honeys pasteurized?

Our honeys are not pasteurized. Our honey tastes superior because we protect the natural qualities with carefully controlled low temperature melting and simple straining. This allows the honey to retain its full flavor as well as its pollens and nutritional value.

How should I store my honey?

We recommend you store your honey at room temperature. Even after opening, honey does not need to be refrigerated.

Organic Agave

What is organic agave?

In 2003, we were proud to be the first company to introduce organic agave to the U.S. market. Known then as the “super sweetener” agave nectar is made from the natural juice of the blue agave plant, organically grown and sustainably farmed in the Sierra Madres region of Mexico. Our all-natural, organic, Non-GMO Project Verified sweetener has continued to grow in popularity, and we’ve expanded our product line to include agave flavored syrups for pancakes, coffee, baking and more!

How is agave produced?

Our agave is organically grown and sustainably farmed in the Sierra Madres region of Mexico. The heart of the plant is pressed to extract the agave juice. The juice is then filtered to remove any plant debris. Once filtered, the juice is heated to achieve the sweet nectar and then filtered again to produce the varying flavor profiles.

What are the health benefits of agave?

Madhava’s agave (Light, Amber and Raw) is USDA certified organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, gluten free, allergen free and vegan. It is also low-glycemic which helps avoid energy spikes that may occur with other sugars. Agave is 1.4x sweeter than sugar so you can use less and reduce calories and added sugars.

How do I substitute agave for refined sugar in my recipes?

Agave nectar is sweeter than sugar, so you can use less! In general, 2/3 cup of agave is equal to 1 cup of sugar. When cooking with agave, we recommend reducing all other liquids by ¼ cup.

How should I store my agave?

We recommend you store your agave at room temperature. Even after opening, agave does not need to be refrigerated.

Organic Baking Mixes

How can I prepare the Organic Baking Mixes to be vegan?

Our Organic Baking Mixes can easily be made vegan with a few simple substitutions. There are many viable options for vegan substitutions but these are a few we recommend.

Organic Flip For Flapjacks Pancake Mix: No substitutions needed. Use water option for liquid.

Organic MMM… Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix: Substitute vegan margarine for the butter. Substitute ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce for the egg.

Organic Ooey-Gooey Chocolate Brownie Mix: Substitute ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce for the egg. Add applesauce to the mix with the oil and water.

Organic MMM… Super Yummy Chocolate Cake Mix: Mix 1 tablespoon baking powder into the dry mix. Substitute ¾ cup unsweetened applesauce for the 3 eggs.

Organic MMM… Super Yummy Yellow Cake Mix: Our Yellow Cake is the only one of our Bake Mixes that isn’t vegan due to the sweet, creamy flavor added to the mix.

Unless otherwise noted above, all other preparation and baking instructions are as noted on the package.
